John Bruce graduated from Union College (B.A. 1987), and from Boston
University School of Law (J.D. 1992). He was admitted to practice in the
Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 1992, the State of New Hampshire in 2006, and
the state of Vermont in 2008. Attorney Bruce is also admitted to practice in the
United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts and the United
States District Court for the District of New Hampshire. He has been with Foster
& Eldridge since its inception in 1996. Prior to joining Foster &
Eldridge, he practiced at a small Boston litigation firm, where his practice
included defense of legal malpractice actions, as well as premises liability
construction law and general liability law. Mr. Bruce regularly lectures on
medical-legal issues and health care law for Continuing Medical Education and
Risk Management programs. He is also a frequent contributor and instructor to
Continuing Legal Educations programs on civil practice issues, including the
doctrine of charitable immunity.
Mr. Bruce has been listed as “Super Lawyer” in Boston Magazine and
Massachusetts Super Lawyers in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
Mr. Bruce successfully argued before the Supreme Judicial Court in Conners v.
Northeast Hospital Corporation, which is the leading case extending the
applicability of the doctrine of charitable immunity to hospitals and health
care systems.
Present areas of practice include Medical Malpractice Defense, Health Care
Law, Representation of Medical Professionals before State Licensing Agencies,
Regulatory Boards and committees, Premises Liability, Complex Tort and General
Civil Litigation.
